It is too hot today. A peak of 37°C. It’s to be hoped this will be the hottest day of the year, but it won’t be. Another burning hot summer, drought, forest fires, failing harvest. This is happening too often and we all know why.
Most of the world recognises the problem and is doing something about it. Rather too slowly, it must be said, but it is being addressed.
The disheartening thing is that this is the new normal. If we stopped all CO₂ production right now, it would take decades for this extreme weather to subside. As it is, everything is going to get worse.
Significantly worse, as the denial of reality becomes suppression of reality in the USA. They’ve already got rid of climate scientists and are currently shutting down information sources. This week, they also decided to stop sharing some of its weather data. No explanation, just a termination. The service is still running for military purposes.
This is not a game-breaker, but it makes it more difficult to model and measure things like the sea ice extent at the poles, one of the bell-weathers of climate change. Hurricanes will be more difficult to predict as well, hope FEMA is prepared for that.
This issue affects me, it affects all of us. But these bone-headed, ignorant, stubborn, irresponsible fools in the USA are doing their best to ruin the world for everybody. There’s nothing we can do.
